Le Cirque Sombre

Last night was Le Cirque Sombre, RAG's latest charity event. They're the University of Exeter's Raise and Give Society, and hold really good events e.g. Jailbreak, Hitch-hike to Amsterdam and a Prohibition Ball. Unfortunately, this night wasn't sold out which meant the night had a smaller crowd. However, it was still a great night.

I went with my lovely friend Emily. She went for a trapeze artist/sparkly beaded dress and gold eye shadow look. Ever a discreet lady, I went as a mime artist - I did a tutorial on this look here. As I walked up to the venue and hung out at the pub beforehand, there were a few confused looks and smiles. I pretended nothing was wrong.

365 Photo Challenge: Week 3 (Jan)

22 Jan - Amanda Palmer's debut book, The Art of Asking, is one of the most important books I've read in my life.

23 Jan - Everything built up; mess, work, stress, but with the help of my new whiteboard, I dealt with it all (it's bright pink and from the children's section. I love it).

25/26 Jan - I've got a make up and beauty column now. The two looks were for a university event, Le Cirque Sombre. The first was more natural, the second more extreme (weirdly, the mime make up took less time to do than the natural one).

Writing Update #6

Posting late because life gets in the way of blogging.

Writing
  • My first sketch of the radio play idea was bad. Really bad. With some kind feedback, I've stripped it back down to try and find what about the idea had appealed to me in the first place. It's set in and about a jazz cafe, so it should be simple drama with background sounds of a jazz piano and coffee cup clinking.
  • I feel I'm stronger at writing articles instead of stories and prose now. It's a little scary and unwelcome. I don't know if this is wrong, a result of neglecting to practise writing stories. I don't know if this is just where the road is taking me.
However, I have a teapot now. Tea is good.

Music
  • Bastion soundtrack has been on. Loud. It's amazing, and the vocals are spectacular.

Real Life and Other Nonsense
  • Exams are over! Deadlines are gone! I've celebrated by doing lots of uni related work. The fun never ends.
  • Friend from home came to visit - we spent the weekend watching movies and TV, and finally had a break. Watched  Serenity, Firefly, House, Begin Again, and Interstellar, had sushi and pub lunches.
  • I am attempting the 365 photo challenge, which I'll be gathering and displaying on this blog once a week.

I Am 20.

Few years ago
A friend : I feel growing up like we did, we never had a childhood.
Me: That's ok. We'll just never grow up.

I don't feel the same way now - growing up hasn't been so bad.

There's been a lot of changes.

I don't base my identity on my grades and "intelligence" any more, which is so much healthier.

I was feeling pretty lost and generally not-good last year. Now, I'm more sure of myself and less concerned with what people think.

Charity shops aren't as interesting as they used to be.

I like tea.

I listen to playlists instead of albums.

I have learnt to recognise stress (it's that block in the front of my head, inability to concentrate or read slowly, tightness in chest and shallow breathing).

I have become a leader.

I write. I read. I create.

I have done so many things.

I met Baroness Floella Benjamin, a childhood hero of mine. I asked her a question - she came into the audience and hugged me. She looked straight into my eyes and said, "never be afraid".

So here's to the next year.
