My Body Shop Shopping

There was an offer on at The Body Shop (spend £40, save £20), so a buddy and I popped down to grab some long coveted stuff:

(Clockwise, starting with the shampoo: 1 - anti-dandruff ginger shampoo, 2 - tea tree skin clearing foaming cleanser, 3 - eyelash curler, 4 - lip and cheek stain, rose pink)

We got £42 worth of products between us, they took of £20 and we split the cost evenly. So all this was £11 for me. HOW AWESOME IS THAT??? I mean, the lip and cheek tint alone is £10!

So, any good?

Harry Potter Studios

These huge buildings just off a road in Watford is the place where most of the Harry Potter films were shot (when not on location). It's absolutely amazing. If you're a big fan of the films, this will definitely be a great birthday/other special occasion treat! Even if you're not (like me), it's still fantastic for looking at behind-the-scenes stuff.

It was a bit annoying with all the tourists - you genuinely could not move an inch without suddenly having an iPhone in your face. I must've photo-bombed so many holiday snaps

Anyway: here we go (massive post, but this is probably 1/10000th of what there was to see):

Post-Exams

Finished exams a few weeks ago, and was happy, exhausted and generally shocked that there will never be a school-esque routine ever again.

So far, I've flooded a table in Yo Sushi (oops), went to the Harry Potter Studios (amazing) and finally watched the first season of Sherlock (just wow). My friend started chanting "ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!"

(At Yo! Sushi. I get mesmerized by the dishes going round the conveyor belt. As the meal progresses, I  end up leaning closer and closer to those bright hypnotic dishes)

Educational Reforms

So I got an email from NUS about this petition:

I signed it straight away and then directed me to write a letter to my local MP. So here's mine. Please sign the petition, you don't have to be a member of NUS to do it.

"Listen to the desires of your children. Encourage them and then give them the autonomy to make their own decision."  - Denis Waitley

My name is Chris and I am writing to you to raise my concerns with the government’s A-level and AS level reform.  I feel my opinion is just as valid as MPs' who claim to know better than students who have first-hand experience with the educational system and process. As you know, from September 2013, the government is reforming A-Levels, with mid-year January assessments being removed; limiting opportunities for resits, with synoptic assessment taking priority.

REVISION AND EXAM TIPS

I HATE EXAMS AND REVISION

*breathes* ok, so yeah, it's a rubbish time of the year. My Law teacher gave us a little pep talk:
"Guys, the next few weeks are going to be crap. But in a month, they'll be done, and you can have the whole summer holidays."

Revising is boring and dull, and it feels like you're becoming a walking textbook. It especially sucks since you'll be moving to new horizons and the last few weeks/months left with your friends are being occupied with this.

But it will be over soon, and you'll have time enough :) focus on your goals, aim high (but not tooooo stressful high) and it will be worth it in the end.

Here are some tips for you m'dears :)

HAPPY BOOK DAY REECE!!!

"Buan: The Perfect Mortals" by Reece Bridger is OUT NOW!!!

It's so pretty! Hats off to Patrick Kerkhof for the design.

Mr Reece Bridger has been happily dragging a rolly-suitcase stuffed full with copies of his book (I hope) around college wearing his standard black waistcoat and dragon necklace, with a renewed pink red streak in his hair.

Satan With Fruit Pastilles

Lent is over! I can go back to being on a permanent sugar-high!

Last year, we were on a school trip and I offered my friend some sweets. She ate pretty much ALL the red fruit pastilles before suddenly going "OH NO!!! I WAS SUPPOSED TO GIVE UP SWEETS FOR LENT!!!" So I felt bad, but at least I now have a snazzy title for this post.

Anyway - events so far: I've been revising for summer exams/getting addicted to Jewel Hunter on my phone to the point where I've had to uninstall it. I'll be making a "Revision Tips" post soon, and trying to follow my own advice!

And I went up to London! I love the V&A museum, definitely my favourite one in London. Unfortunately, there's never time to look at it properly as it's MASSIVE and there's so many exhibits and artefacts and things to see. Plus my parents got bored (they're not as nerdy as me).

I GOT TAGGED!

I lost my pattern of once-a-week posts as I was horrendously ill with the black death flu a few weeks ago, and then English coursework took over my life. However, I have recovered and handed in my essay, so things should be back to normal.

ANYWAY

Julia tagged me! Let's go!

"Buan: The Perfect Mortals" by Reece Bridger

A few weeks ago, a floppy haired boy with a fading red streak joined my Writer's Group wearing a dragon necklace and a long fake-leather coat, brandishing a laptop and a lot of ambition.

Reece Bridger is set to self-publish his debut novel "Buan: The Perfect Mortals" 3rd week in April, so I thought I'd let you lot know.

He's a very lovely guy, friendly, hard working, creative and extremely talented, so I was happy to be his unofficial editor, and help out by going through his novel, adding suggestions and a few corrections.

It's an excellent book, full of imagination and humour, beauty and emotion. The Perfect Mortals is the first of the Buan Trilogy, a fantasy story following the troubled Harmon siblings, for whom danger is never too far away. Something evil is threatening peace with brutality and devastation. The siblings have been chosen by the Goddess herself, and now - all depends on them.

University of Exeter

It's so nice I want to cry!!!

After nearly missing our train (and we had mandatory times) due to me getting the platform wrong, my big brother and I took a 2 and a half hour train journey down to the University of Exeter. I'd heard a lot of praise for this university, so I had high expectations.

And it is absolutely amazing. They weren't kidding about the hills though.

I didn't take a lot of good photos cos I was embarrassed to have a prospectus under one arm and point my phone around, but here they are:

The Forum/Library
They've spent over £350 million in investment in facilities (nice to know the "slight" increases in student fees are being used well)

On the staircase in The Forum. The floor was so shiny I kept wanting to do knee slides

Hey Julia! Here's Some of My Favourite Blogs!

This is for my dear friend Julia ( this is her blog ) who is not fully aware of all the awesome and pretty blogs out there.

I'm also doing this post for myself, to help me rediscover my love of blogs. All the links open up to a new window when clicked, to make it easier for you ;)

THE BLOG THAT STARTED EVERYTHING FOR ME

  • thestylerookie Tavi Gevinson is literally one of my idols. This got me interested in blogging, feminism and so many more things. She's also editor in chief of  the awesome rookiemag which has been one of the best positive influences in my life. And she's about 17

I Like Valentine's Day. Please Don't Kill Me

"I don't know who Valentine was, but I hope he died alone surrounded by couples."
That's the lovely Miranda Hart expressing her hatred of Valentines Day/Single Awareness Day/Everyone-Is Freaking-Bitter-Day.

So why is 14th February so hated?

Is it the commercialism? The endless shower of red hearts and roses? Too much pink? The sickening teddy bears growling "I WUV YOU"? Realising how creepy Cupid looks? Being unable to hate it without people saying you're just jealous 'cos you're single? Are you blasting out "Die Hard" from your TV to cancel out the neighbour's "Love Actually"?

Lighten up guys!

THIS IS THE FIRST POST

Resolutions for Blogging

  1. I will no longer delete my blog three months after starting it
  2. I will share my blog with friends
  3. I will post once a week for four months
  4. I will comment on other blogs 'cos that's friendly
  5. I will not have a "theme" to my posts - I will just write
  6. I will stop trying to take blogging seriously, and just make it fun for me
  7. I will learn how to use all the gizmos like posting photos and videos etc and try to get rid of the "technophobic writer" stereotype I am fulfilling
So hi there! How are y'all?
